Missionary or Temporary Seven Visas

Missionar (Temporary seven) visas may be granted to non-Brazilian citzens (and accompanying dependents) intending to work in Brazil for or on behalf of an entity of consacrated life or a religious order.

Requests for a MISSIONARY visa require the following initial set of documents to be submitted for approval by the Consulate (many of which will need legalization):

- a Temporary seven visa request form in Portuguese filled out by the entity's Brazilian branch and verified with a legal representative's notarized signature;

-certified evidence of powers conferred to the mentioned legal representative, including powers to invite foreign missionaires and to request the corresponding entry visas;

-certified copies of the charter ("ata de constituição") and bylaws ("estatutos") of the entity's Brazilian branch;

-deed of maintenance and repatriation prepared at a public notary's office in favor of the applicant (and accompanying dependents), signed by the Brazilian branch's legal representative;

-a notarized commitment from the entity in the applicant's country of origin to cover the above maintenance and repatriation costs;

- a photocopy of the relevant pages of the applicant's passaport;

-a recent transcript of the applicant's resume;

-a copy of a certificate of ordination or other proof of graduation in theology;

-long form copies of the birth certificates of any accompanying family members and of a marriage certificate, if applicable;

-a recent certified criminal record check issued by a police department with jurisdiction over the applicationt's place of residence, or two notatized letters of reference and good conduct signed by two idoneous individuals or institutions, properly identified and not bound to the applicants entity of consecrated life or religious order.

-a signed commitment from the missionary only to work in areas inhabited by indigenous tribes after obtaining a permit from FUNAI.

After approval the Consulate will request the applicant to present the following supporting documents for each person in his/her party:

· a valid passport or permit to reenter the US;
·  two filled out copies of a visa application form provided by the Consulate;
· two recent passport-type photographs.

Non-US citizens are additionally requested to present one of the following:
- a US resident alien card or
- a valid entry visa to the US.

With validity extending up to 12 months, a Missionary visa is subject to a consular fee of US$ 70.00, plus applicable fees (see section "Entry Visas General Information").
